Campaign
ESN produced the virtual reality experience, in collaboration with Poppyns and Wayne, for the Directorate-General for the Environment. It features a dystopian reality, set in 2050, where our world has been deprived of pollinating insects and healthy habitats following ecological crises. In this future, a scientist devoted her life to creating Pollinator Park, an oasis of beauty where pollinating insects are preserved.
The VR experience was designed for Oculus devices and high-end computers. It was adapted into Dutch, Spanish, German and French to reach a wide audience and is available via a web version as well.
The goal was to make users understand that pollinators of all kinds are essential for our future. For instance, one section of the park illustrates the kinds of fruit and vegetable that are likely to disappear if certain pollinators disappear.
Users can try their hand at hand pollination, grocery shopping in a pollinator-deprived world and learn how to protect the last remaining pollinators.
Pollinator Park was officially launched during an online event in March 2021 to mark the beginning of Spring. This grand opening was watched by more 1,500 viewers and featured the EU Commissioner for Environment, the Director of the European Environment Agency, Vincent Callebaut and the project’s creators.
The Pollinator Park was not only a hit with the client and the EU community. It was awarded ‘Best Non-Entertainment Game of the year’ at the Belgian game Awards in 2021. Also, it was a nominee in the category of ‘Game with a Social Impact’ at the Webby Awards in 2022, a global competition that gathered more than 14,000 entries from around the world.
Enter Pollinator Park and discover how important pollinators are to keeping our planet alive.
