#FacesofEurope is a video concept launched by ESN for the European Parliament in 2017. The series of portraits shows EU citizens who are active in a wide range of domains and who have benefitted from one or more policies supported by the EU. From a student of space science and IT big data specialists to wildlife conservation volunteers, Faces of Europe spotlights the true stories of EU citizens.
ESN used the Instagram format as a platform to allow those featured to tell their own stories with an authentic voice. The compilation of personal shots, archives from their specific projects or initiatives coupled with their experiences, as told in their native languages, created compelling stories in an engaging way. The approach is in line with the European Parliament’s goal for this project: tell the true stories of Europeans.
These were the casting requirements when we approached people to tell their stories and use their own Instagram accounts to disseminate the clips. Identifying the ideal profiles and stories was the most challenging and enjoyable part of this video project!
Significantly, those featured shared the Instagram stories on their accounts to reach their own communities and in parallel the European Parliament targeted a broader EU audience through its social media accounts.
For this video series, ESN oversaw the concept, topics, casting, script writing, video production, editing and language versioning in English, French and German. Between 2017 and 2021, ESN produced 29 videos in various formats, each profiling an individual who benefited from EU support.
This communication campaign was a representative and engaging way of showing actual benefits to real people. ESN made sure each true story resonated with audiences across the EU. Mission accomplished!
